News about school, home, children, and other things in October 2023
1. Preparing for our trip to Uganda

The Executive Board – Joachim Kubitz, Thomas Langsch and Renate Blank – will travel to Uganda from 17 – 25 November 2023.
Important topic of the visit will be the independent future of the Southern Association.
Since a lot of baggage allowance is possible, we are happy to receive donations of clothing, shoes, mobile phones, laptops, school supplies, English-language books and games, fun and educational DVDs, medical and hygiene articles, promotional gifts, etc.
2. Coaching: Future issues and development of the Association – generational change and board work
Thomas Langsch and Renate Blank are currently attending a coaching session organized by the NordSüdForum Munich on the above-mentioned topic. It covers a total of 5 times three hours. It is carried out by the institution "Fairbinden" in the Bavarian State Network for Civic Engagement and takes place in the EineWeltHaus.
3. Notice of exemption
On 22.09.2023, the Munich tax office granted the association Hand in Hand a new exemption notice from corporate income tax for Uganda. It is valid until 31.12.2027. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Buchner Maly for the necessary processing of the accounting.
Insights into the projects
Insights into the projects
1. Costs for school, training, and studies
The costs for six young people currently in training to become nurses have increased exorbitantly. While in 2022 they were still 2.9 million UGX = approx. 750/€ per child per year, they have risen to approx. 4.6 million UGX = approx. 1,170 € from 2023.
A decision by the board of directors as to whether and to what extent the Association can cover these costs is still pending.
Changes in 2024
Three children will move from Primary School (1st – 7th grade) to Secondary School (8th – 11th grade) next year.
Four children will start an education:
a secretary, a plumber, an accountant, and a tourism clerk.
A girl is going to study to be a tax consultant.
The costs for this are between €800 and €1,000.00 per year.
Thomas Langsch will revise the existing list of young people in training. This is intended to increase transparency about the status of the respective training and the due date of fees.
This is one of the reasons why the Association urgently asks for financial support and is happy about every donation!
2. Employment contract for a young person from the project
Lorenz Kisolo completed his apprenticeship as a machine mechanic in the practical part in 2022. Since he can earn little to no money in his profession at the moment, he is contractually employed by the Nordverein (Northern Association) as a garden helper with a salary of 210,000 USh/month from 01.09.23. (= 53, -€).
Additional tasks are the technical maintenance and care of the machines (e.g. car, boda boda).
3. Medical Health
Since the beginning of 2023, weekly medical care for the villagers has been able to be carried out again. On average, 62 patients were treated per Sundays’ treatment. The medical staff (1 doctor and 1 nurse) receive €25/month for four days of treatment. This means that they work more or less on a voluntary basis.
So much for today.
We wish you a nice and peaceful autumn and conclude with
best regards and a big THANK YOU
Yours, Renate Blank and Thomas Langsch
