News from the projects of Hand in Hand for Uganda e. V. in spring 2026
1. Damage by water to the wall on the north side of the orphanage
To protect the house on the northern slope of the property, the supporting wall in danger of collapsing was renewed and reinforced. The costs for this amounted to approx. 1,600 euros.
2. Compound finished
A great improvement was also achieved by the completion of the partial paving of the courtyard. Especially in the rainy season, it was always very slippery there. The children have to walk down the sloping terrain to get wood, feed the animals or take the garbage to the bins. This in return ended in always carrying a lot of dirt into the house.
3. Medical Aid Project
As part of the regular ambulatory, cost-free medical care on the Association´s grounds, an alarming increase in infectious diseases was detected. The aim is to offer an additional measles vaccination as well as targeted educational seminars on hygiene and health care for the villagers. The additional costs for this still have to be calculated.
4. Invitation of two young people from the project to Germany
It is planned to offer a 3-week stay of a prospective medical student and a journeyman electrician in Germany. The passports for this have been applied for. After we have received them, we hope to issue the visas. This is always a somewhat exciting act and depends on discretion, political situation and possibly corresponding financial concessions.
Depending on whether and when these documents are available, a date is planned around July 2026. We will inform you about further details and hands-on programs soon. We are happy to accept suggestions or invitations.
5. Heimatstern e.V.: Assumption of school fees
A total of 94 children live in the orphanage, but only 65 children can be covered by sponsorships. We are pleased that our fellow association "Heimatstern e. V." has covered the costs for eight children with 3,200 euros for 2026. The children are happy to have now fully arrived in the "Hand in Hand Family". Thank you very much, Petra and Tilman!
6. Sponsored cycling
Our club member Johannes Frischholz has realized his plan to cycle for Hand in Hand für Uganda e. V. in 2025 with an incredible 12,000 km. Thomas Langsch has donated 1,200 euros to the Association for this purpose. We would like to thank you very much for this.
7. Renovation
The buildings of the Hand in Hand Home have passed their prime after almost eleven years. The strain of the many children and residents is clearly recognizable. An amount of 3,000 euros will be transferred for repair, replacement and painting work.
