What's new in May 2025
1. Defective well pump and trip to Uganda
The solar pump of the well built in 2022 on the Association's own property has been defective since November 2024.
Our research has shown that a cheap spare part (about 10 euros) can be ordered from the manufacturing company in South Africa.
Only now have we learned that the fountain has not been in operation since then because the electrician in charge did not receive the material.
Currently, only the rainwater tanks can be used, which blatantly worsens the water situation because they are only filled irregularly.
Costs for the procurement of a new submersible pump in Germany would be about 400 euros. Extensive research by the technicians in Uganda resulted in 10 times the price there!
For this reason, Thomas and Johannes Langsch themselves will travel to the project in June with a new pump to replace it. The cost of both, flights and pump, is 50% less than buying locally! In addition, there is then the opportunity to discuss and inspect other problems in the projects.
Fortunately, a sponsor was found at short notice who gave us a very high-quality, new pump free of charge.
In this context, we urgently ask you for donations in kind, especially of good, newer mobile phones, laptops and tablets. The prices in Uganda are also extremely high for this.
2. Sponsorships and training
The 2nd term of the 2025 school year began at the end of April. Due to the sale of the St. Lucia Primary School to a new sponsor, the school fees have tripled! Since the Association cannot afford this and the sponsorship contributions do not cover this by far, another solution had to be found.
Now 29 of the 33 primary school pupils attend the boarding school of the Maria Goretti School in Masaka and only come home at the end of the term. The 1st and 2nd graders will remain in the St. Lucia day school.
3. Südverein Hand in Hand for Uganda
The Südverein has been officially registered since 2020. Now the approval costs have been determined by the municipal administration of Masaka. An additional payment of 700 euros was charged. In the future, a fee of about 100 euros per year will be due.
4. The accountability report of the certified company "evlo and company" in the Südverein was reviewed and approved for the year 2024.
5. Medical Aid Project
It is becoming increasingly difficult to finance the regular treatment day of the villagers. Due to the rising costs, the frequency had to be temporarily changed from a one-week rhythm to a two-week rhythm.
6. Homepage
A very special thank you goes to Christiane, who translated our entire homepage into English, and to Stefan and Johannes, who created the technical prerequisites for it.
Kind regards
