Forest and garden

In 2004, Renate Blank bought a large, partly wooded plot of land in Kamukongo, a village near Masaka. Initially, the goal was mainly the (re-)reforestation of land in order to protect the environment. Since the people of Uganda cook exclusively with open fireplaces, they consume a lot of wood and clear everything that is available. For the recreation of the environment, fast-growing woody plants were planted, but also fruit trees such as mangoes, avocados, and oranges. There are also several gardens on the property with fruit and vegetables such as beans, cassava, sweet potatoes, bananas, and sugar cane - the staple foods - which quickly ensures the nutrition of the whole family.

In the meantime, the fruits harvested here can even be resold and a profit can be made as a result.
