Betty Nakajjigo
Betty Nakajjigo was born on 25th of September 1987 and was adopted in 1997 by Goretti Namuyomba Musoke and Emmanuel Musoke to save her from being sold by her parents to a man for marriage.
She worked a few years with great success in the computer school of the Musoke family, mainly to earn the school fees for her four younger siblings. The father makes bricks by hand, the family of 12 people has almost no income.
At the beginning of 2009, Renate Blank and Thomas Langsch, in consultation with Goretti Namuyomba Musoke, decided to finance Betty Nakajjigo's education at a secondary school. She first attended the evening school for adult education to be able to continue working during the day. In the meantime, she has completed her training with a degree equivalent to the intermediate school certificate (Mittlere Reife).
Unexpectedly, in 2009, the property leased by Betty Nakajigo's family was sold to a stranger. As a result, the family was deprived of its livelihood, namely the cultivation of the land and thus the supply of its own food.
Together with the Association "Hand in Hand for Uganda e.V.", a replacement plot of land could be found for the family's continued self-sufficiency.
Since October 2009, Betty Nakajjigo has been an honorary assistant director of the women's group "Women in Development" (see project womengroup) to support the director of the project Goretti Namuyomba Musoke.
At the beginning of 2011 she studied German for half a year at the Goethe-Institut in Kampala. During her subsequent stay in Germany, she gained experience in project work and German culture.
Since August 2011 she has been responsible for all the Association's projects in Uganda. She takes care of the sponsorships, the women's project, house and well construction, the accounts, etc. and keeps all contacts on site. Reports on the projects are regularly exchanged and problems are discussed.
Since the foundation of the southern Association "Hand in Hand for Uganda e.V." In Uganda in 2020, she is its chairwoman.
